Our guide. How to care for and restore Skeppshult cast iron cookware.
Skeppshult cast iron cookware is an investment for years to come. Their extraordinary durability, natural non-stick properties, and excellent heat conduction make them indispensable in the kitchen. However, to serve generations, they require proper care and, from time to time, renovation. Here is a comprehensive guide to help you learn how to properly care for your Skeppshult cookware.
1. Preparing the cookware for first use
New Skeppshult cast iron cookware is factory-impregnated with rapeseed oil and only requires thorough washing under running water and greasing with rapeseed oil. The applied oil should be heated to perform initial seasoning of the pan. This treatment will give the cookware a better non-stick layer and make it more resistant to corrosion.
2. How to properly care for cast iron cookware
Improper care can lead to the destruction of the protective non-stick layer and the formation of rust. To prevent this, it is worth following a few rules.
- Never wash cast iron cookware in the dishwasher
- Use warm water and a dense brush without detergents
- Perform periodic seasoning of the cookware according to the instructions below
3. Cleaning heavy dirt
To clean heavy dirt, use table salt and rapeseed oil. Follow the instructions in the video below.
4. Renovation of heavily damaged, rusty cookware
If your Skeppshult cookware has rusted, it does not mean you have to say goodbye to it. Just a few steps are enough to restore its former shine.
- Use a wire scrubber to remove the rust.
- Wash the cookware with hot water and dry it well.
- Apply oil and perform seasoning.
- Repeat the process several times if necessary.
